Meet Chris and Tammy Laval, the hard-working couple who embarked on a journey into business ownership 16 years ago, and their son, Ethan, who has since become a vital asset, bringing a youthful energy into the business. For Business Owner Chris, the transition to real estate was somewhat unexpected. Moving from New Caledonia 27 years ago, he primarily worked in the hospitality industry based on the Gold Coast. His experience in hospitality exposed him to the world of sales, where he had a knack for pitching ideas to his suppliers. Redundancies led both Chris and Tammy to reevaluate and, when an opportunity in Tammy’s hometown of Mackay arose, their real estate journey began.
In 2007, the Laval family took the leap into business ownership, establishing themselves in the Mackay real estate industry under a franchise where they quickly gained recognition as a top-ten agency in the group. After 15 successful years, they took the next step as an independent agency, giving Chris the freedom to operate under his own agenda. Since establishing Mackay City Property, they’ve continued to flourish, using their extensive experience to offer competitive fees and flexibility to their clients.
Chris brings over 20 years of experience to an industry he describes as high energy, high pace, demanding and competitive, an environment in which he thrives.
“It’s not always fun but I love the challenge,” he said. “It’s very competitive, the challenge of dealing with people’s assets when they sell their house, whatever the reason or circumstance, and whatever the market. It’s a people business and I’ve always loved working alongside people.”
Ethan, who joined the business straight out of school, obtained his real estate license at just 18 years old. Chris has been instrumental in Ethan’s development, providing hands-on training and sharing his wealth of knowledge.
“I’ve had dad behind me training me throughout, doing work experience in high school, and as soon as I got my license we were working together, listing and selling,” Ethan said. “He’s still training me to this day while I start to drive myself forward as my own agent.
Mackay City Property have garnered the respect of the industry, experienced across property management, rural and commercial sales and residential sales, including Chris’ highlight of a multi-million-dollar sale in Blacks Beach in 2007. The agency has left their mark on Mackay, changing the perception of auctions which was a big turning point for the business and the market.
